I received my HP Sprocket on February 11th and have used it multiple times without issue. I recently ordered a refill of HP Sprocket photo paper from Amazon (the same link I previously used without problems), but now every time I load it, I get a “paper feed error.”

I’ve tried:

Removing and reloading the paper correctly

Flipping the direction of the paper

Opening a second pack (it was a 20-pack)

Resetting the printer

Nothing has worked, and I’m still getting the same error. Since I’ve had the printer for less than a month, I’m frustrated that this issue is already happening. Any advice on how to fix it?

Hi @Livealaska, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I truly understand how irritating it must be to suddenly have a paper feed error on your HP Sprocket, especially when it was working beautifully just before! 😠 It's like your little printer has suddenly become reluctant to take in the paper and print those vibrant photos you're eager to create. 😔 Let's try some gentle but focused steps to coax that paper feed mechanism back to life and get those memories printing smoothly again. 📸➡️😊 We'll use our senses to investigate and try to resolve this paper feed puzzle. 🕵️‍♀️

If your HP Sprocket is stubbornly refusing to feed paper, flashing that frustrating error message after working perfectly before, let's try these sensory troubleshooting steps to guide the paper smoothly again. Imagine we're gently encouraging the paper to glide through and become a beautiful print! 😉 Try these actions: 👇

Ensure You’re Using Genuine HP Sprocket Paper

  • Since you ordered from Amazon, double-check that the paper is genuine HP ZINK photo paper.
  • Look for the HP logo and ZINK branding on the packaging.
  • If unsure, try using a sheet from your previous successful pack.

Use the Correct Paper Orientation

  • The pack includes an orange Smart Sheet—make sure it’s loaded barcode-side down at the bottom of the stack.
  • The glossy printing side should face up.

Clean the Rollers Using the Smart Sheet

  • Run the orange Smart Sheet through the printer a few times. This helps clean the feed rollers and recalibrate the device.

Check for Any Paper Jams or Debris

  • Open the paper tray and inspect for stuck paper fragments or dust.
  • Gently clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth.

Update the HP Sprocket App and Firmware

  • Open the HP Sprocket app on your phone.
  • Go to Settings > Printers > Firmware Update.
  • If an update is available, install it.

Perform a Full Reset

  • Turn off the Sprocket.
  • Press and hold the Power button for 10-15 seconds until the LED light turns off.
  • Restart the printer and try printing again.

Try a Different Pack of Paper

  • You already tried a second pack, but if possible, test with paper from a different batch to rule out a defective refill.

I hope this helps. 📸😊

Take care and have a good day. ☀️📄😊
