I am having issues with my Sproket Select. I haven’t used it in years but I have the charger it came with and have been charging it for the last couple days. When I unplug it, it does not turn on. I have even tried using the reset button and that doesn’t seem to work either. I was able to get it to connect to the app and it says it’s at 99% but it still won’t turn on unless it’s plugged in. Any tips?

Hi @olyviametz,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Sprocket Select is experiencing a common issue where the battery no longer holds a charge after being unused for a long time. Even though the app shows 99%, the device only works when plugged in, which strongly suggests the battery has degraded.

Here’s what you can try:

Step 1: Hard Reset

You mentioned trying the reset button, but let’s confirm:

  • Use a paperclip to press and hold the reset pinhole for 3–5 seconds.
  • Release and try powering on while unplugged.

Step 2: Check Charging Cable & Adapter

  • Use the original charger if possible.
  • Try a different USB cable and wall adapter (avoid charging from a computer port).
  • Charge for at least 90 minutes uninterrupted.

Step 3: Update Firmware

  • Open the HP Sprocket app.
  • Go to Menu → Firmware Update.
  • If an update is available, install it while the printer is plugged in.

Step 4: Battery Health

If the device still won’t power on without being plugged in, the internal battery is likely deeply discharged or failed. Unfortunately, Sprocket batteries are not user-replaceable, so the best option is:

  • Contact HP Support for a battery service or replacement device. 👉 HP Sprocket Support

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
