Need some guidance and clarification around this

I work in a Large Secondary and our site manager / health and safety officer has told me that all of our Networking equipment needs to go on electrical timers, however I'm unsure of the damage that is can cause to device that is made and designed to be on 24x7

thank you

Quality hubs, switches, gateways usually survive a power outage.  It is far better to shut down than to have a brown out where the power drops to a low value and fluctuates.

Network attached storage can have a problem.  I am familiar with only Synology NAS but other systems probably come with power management. that allows scheduling.  PC's can also be programmed to shutdown gracefully

This can all be done, just have to configure each system to shut done on a schedule.

[EDIT] If the switch is for emergency use then scheduling is not an option.  Is is possible for PC's on a domain to be commanded to shutdown, same for NAS.  The shutdown should be issued in advance of cutting power.

[another edit]  I am not a network expert.  The company I retired from had large rack mounted network devices and there was no problem with the occasional power glitch.   However, this equipment was not "mission critical" .
