Hi @Spirithealer771,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like your HP notebook is experiencing some issues. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.
Hard Reset:
- Turn off the notebook.
- Disconnect the power cable and remove the battery (if possible).
- Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cable (and battery) and try turning it on again.
External Monitor:
- Connect your notebook to an external monitor and see if the display appears on the external screen. This can help determine if the issue is with the laptop screen.
Check Brightness:
- Ensure that the screen brightness is not set to the lowest level. Sometimes, the display may seem blank due to low brightness.
Boot into Safe Mode:
- Restart your notebook and boot into Safe Mode (usually by pressing F8 during startup). This can help identify if the issue is related to a software or driver problem.
Update Graphics Drivers:
- If you can access Safe Mode, update your graphics drivers. Outdated or incompatible drivers can sometimes cause display issues.
System Restore:
- If the problem started recently, consider using System Restore to revert your system to a previous state where it was functioning properly.
Hardware Check:
- If the above steps don't resolve the issue, there may be a hardware problem.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for the recommended fixes. At this time it is on again off again. I failed to mention that there is/was a possibility the unit got wet. I am accident prone therefor so are my things. The laptop was not next to or even real close to the water bottle. But since things can go wrong they usually do for me and the water bottle was tipped by the cat . It ran across and off night stand to procced in a zig zag path accross several stacked notebooks and other reading material to continue into the laptop side via the corner to one of the books... I have not at this time tried any of your suggestions for I just read your response and in fairness felt i should be completely honest. At this time it is at a 60/40. (60 working but not fully, once i can get it to turn on, And i believe it is the screen, I have to leave it plugged in. Otherwise the screen begins to dim slowly to eventually going completely black. I did place the unit in rice for 24 hours after the incident. It did not come on at first. I kept trying periodically until it did. If you have a different approach you think I should take in fixing this unit I would be greatful. I am not exactly your most tech savy out there. This is my third unit since i started taking college classes aprox 2 years ago. The other two Im sure with the right guidence I can repair to working condition, for they also fell prey to my accident prone life. I look forward to the route you would recommend I take so I can use my laptop with confidence again. I dread everytime I need to use it and have to turn it on. for usually when i have something that is both time sensitve and important is when it wants to keep everything hidden behind a black out screen.
