Hello
I have a question about the  HP Z240 Tower

Is it possible to upgrade the i3-6xxx  CPU to a Xeon E3-12xx -V6 ?

@Yacine1 -- is this your computer: HP Z240 Tower Workstation Specifications | HP® Customer Support

That page lists several Intel i7 6th generation processors that are compatible.

Hi @Yacine1 and @itsmyname,

[to HP Moderators: my apologies for adding this response to Itsmyname, but this very Xeon CPU topic is directly linked to my recent thread here: Re: Upgrading HP EliteDesk 800 G3 SFF - HP Support Community - 8251218)]

Yacine1, you brought up a very interesting question!  -And one I am very much interested in as my link will show.  I just ordered a Xeon E3-1280 v6 for an HP desktop (EliteDesk 800 G3 SFF) which has the same LGA 1151 CPU socket as your PC.

Upon researching HP Z240 Tower Users, I found out that at least one of the best-rated Z240's has been fitted (see link below) with an Intel Xeon E3-1270 v5 -as you know a v5-family member forerunner of the E3-12xx v6 processor family!

[EDIT 220130:] And here you are: definitive evidence: a HP Z240 Tower Workstation fitted with a Xeon E3-1270 v6HP Z240 Tower Workstation Performance Results - UserBenchmark

Anyway, the answer to your question is most likely an affirmative: -YES! The Xeon E3-12xx v6 processors should are compatible fit: just today I was confident enough to spend about $200 to purchase a Xeon E3-1280 v6!

Kind Regards,
