Hi @Naveena23,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your laptop has been damaged by water, here are the steps you should take to minimize damage and determine whether it can be repaired or needs replacement:

Immediate Steps

Power Off: Immediately turn off the laptop and unplug it from any power source. If it's still running, press and hold the power button until it shuts down.

Remove Peripherals: Disconnect any external devices (USB drives, mouse, etc.) and remove any attached accessories.

Remove the Battery (if possible): If your laptop has a removable battery, take it out to prevent further damage.

Drain the Laptop: Hold the laptop upside down in a V shape (like an inverted tent) to allow any trapped water to escape. Leave it in this position for several hours.

Dry the Laptop: Use a soft cloth or paper towel to gently blot up any visible moisture. Avoid using a hairdryer or direct heat, as this can cause further damage.

Let It Dry

  1. Air Dry: Leave the laptop to dry in a well-ventilated area for at least 24-48 hours. If possible, place it in a bag or container with silica gel packets or uncooked rice to absorb moisture.

After Drying

Check for Damage: Once you believe it’s completely dry, reinsert the battery (if removed) and try to power it on.

Test Functionality: Check if all functions are working (keyboard, screen, ports, etc.). If it powers on but exhibits issues, take note of any specific problems.

Repair or Replace

HP Professional Inspection: If it doesn’t power on or you notice significant issues, take it to a professional repair service. They can diagnose and repair internal components, such as the motherboard or keyboard.

Consider Replacement: If the damage is extensive or the repair costs are high, it might be more cost-effective to replace the laptop.

Additional Tips

  • Backup Your Data: If the laptop turns on but shows signs of malfunction, back up your data immediately to prevent data loss.

To assist better:

  • May I have the exact name of the model of the product? Refer to this document for steps to find the product details. Do not share your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
