Welcome to our HP Community forum!
That’s truly unfortunate, and I can only imagine how frustrating and stressful this must be for you. Here's what I would do/try:
1. Tracking via HP Services (if enabled):
HP does not have a built-in tracking system tied to the serial number. However, if they had installed HP Wolf Security or HP’s Tile integration, they might be able to track it via those services.
2. Windows Find My Device (if enabled):
If you had enabled Windows’ Find My Device before the theft, you can try:
- Go to Microsoft's Find My Device
- Sign in with the same Microsoft account used on the laptop
- If it was online before being wiped, it may show the last known location
3. Check Google/Apple Accounts for Activity:
- If Google services (Chrome, G mail, etc.) was used, you may check recent logins or IP addresses:
- Visit Google’s Security Checkup
- Look for any unknown devices or login locations
- If you had Apple services (iTunes, iCloud, etc.), you could check for recent logins (just an idea)
4. Contact HP Support & Local Authorities:
- HP cannot track the device using the serial number, but if you report it to HP Support, they may flag the device in their system in case it comes in for service.
- You should also file a police report with the serial number and any receipts. If the perp tries to resell it, a flagged serial number could help authorities recover it.
5. Notify the Retailer (if applicable):
If you purchased it from an HP store or another retailer, you could check if the store offers any recovery or theft protection services.
6. Monitor Online Marketplaces:
If the criminal tries to sell it, you can check:
- Local online marketplaces (?: Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, OLX, etc.)
- eBay or other resell platforms using your laptop's model
Btw, here’s a well-structured message (I think) you can use when contacting HP Support and local law enforcement:
