Hi @fms_del,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand the touchpad on your HP laptop is not working, and I’ll guide you through the recommended troubleshooting steps.

Step 1: Turn the touchpad OFF and ON

  • Double-tap the top-left corner of the touchpad
  • If there is a small light, make sure it is OFF (touchpad enabled)

(Some models allow enabling/disabling this way)

Step 2: Perform a hard reset

  • Turn OFF the laptop
  • Disconnect the charger
  • Remove all external devices (USB, etc.)
  • Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds
  • Reconnect the charger and turn ON

This helps clear temporary system issues

Step 3: Test the touchpad using HP Diagnostics

  • Turn OFF the laptop
  • Turn it ON and tap the Esc key repeatedly
  • Press F2 for Diagnostics
  • Go to Component Tests → Mouse/Touchpad
  • Run the test and follow the on-screen instructions

This checks if the issue is hardware-related

Step 4: Run Windows Update

  • Go to Settings → Windows Update
  • Check for updates and install all pending updates

Outdated system files can affect touchpad functionality

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
