Hey there! @mohanavel, Thanks for stopping by HP forums!
I understand that when you try to format the SD card you get an error unable to format SD card.
Don't worry I will try to help you out.
Please try the steps recommended below.
Did you check on the SD card adapter there would be a lock at the side, have you changed the lock direction?
Step 1. Right-click the computer icon in Windows 7 or This PC in Windows 8-10 and select "Manage". On the pops up window, from the right pane go to "Storage" -> Disk Management.
Step 2. Now find the SD card or USB drive that shows unable to complete the format error. If there are any partitions on the drive, delete them all, and then you'll get a single volume.
Step 3. Right-click on the drive and hit "Format". Choose NTFS file system if the device is larger than 4GB, or else choose the FAT32 file system.
If the above steps do not fix the problem try the steps mentioned below.
1. Click on "Start", type "diskpart.exe" (without quotes) in the start search box and press Enter or click "DiskPart.exe" in the search results.
2. Command Prompt Window will be open.
3. In Command Prompt Window, type "list volume" and press Enter.
4. The volumes or partitions on your system will appear with a volume number, drive letter, label, file system, type, size, and status. If you have only one partition on your hard drive, the volume represents the entire hard disk.
5. Type "select volume" followed by the volume number that you want to format.
For example, if the disk is "Volume 3" in the disk list, type "select volume 3" and press Enter.
DiskPart responds with "Volume # Is Now the Selected Volume."
6. Type "format fs=<file system type for the volume> quick" to do a quick format with the chosen file system.
For example, if you want to format your volume in the NTFS format, type "format fs=ntfs quick" and press Enter.
I'll keep an eye out for your response.
I hope you have a great day! 🙂

Hi! @mohanavel, thanks for the response.
Kudos to you for trying out the steps.
As you mentioned that you are still getting format is not complete error message.
Have you tried connecting the SD card to a different PC and tried formatting the SD card.
If you are unable to format the SD card on a different PC then it is the hardware issue with the SD card.
You have to replace the SD card with new one.
Hope to hear from your soon!
Have a great day! 🙂
