Unfortunately, we have no control what is offered from that third-party website.

Did you try to edit the Hosts file as suggested?

@Happy_Person - any input here?  Is the download still available?

Hello.

I attempted to use the link in the article. The download began, but I stopped it as I already have this file. So it still appears to work for me, but I have the hosts file fix. It just requires adding a few lines to a text file. Instructions for making it are here: https://pivotce.com/2015/06/15/tip-edit-your-hosts-file-for-access-to-old-palm-servers/

This file is retrieved from HP, so should be trust-worthy, but is unmodified.

If you want an easy life, there is a modified file here: https://pivotce.com/2015/12/13/the-ultimate-bypass-activation-tool/ This one is unofficial. I see no reason not to trust it, but it is at your own risk.

Having bypassed your device, the following may be of interest. As time passes, more services change and webOS devices are maintained now by enthusiasts - but almost all the basic services can be made to work.

---------

EDIT: OK, I just noticed you mention a Palm Pre - most people are bypassing TouchPads. Original devices devices running webOS 1.4.5 are not well supported now. It will work as a phone and will surf the web, but your mileage will vary when connecting to remote services depending on the available fixes. One benefit is that the unmodified tool will bypass activation. http://www.webosnation.com/bypass-activation-webos-1-x

webOS 2.+ devices (Pre2, Pre3, Veer) can be patched and Pre+ phones can be upgraded to webOS 2.+

---------

Additionally, a number of other systems can run on the TouchPad, including Android and LuneOS (this is still in development), which is the open-source update of webOS with newer technology.
