There is a message in my "Action Center" saying that AVG Anti Virus 2015 is turned off, and must be turned on. It won't allow me to do that, and the program will not open, so I assume it is too outdated to run. I uninstalled it, and then downloaded another anti virus program from Avast. It says it is installed, but will not run. By looking aronund, I found a message that AVG Anti Virus 2015 must be unistalled, which i have already done. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Avast program twice more, but it still will not work. Help?

Hello Dale,
What told you that AVG was still enabled?
Most third party antivirus programs also have a separate uninstaller that you have to download and use to insure you fully remove the program. Example: avastclear.
Since you already uninstalled AVG (I assume using Windows uninstaller), you will need to manually remove whatever remnants are leftover.
You can type AVG into the Windows search bar in Windows Explorer and see what it finds, then navigate to that file/folder and delete it.
Also you will need to scan through the Registry and remove what ever is left there.
- I would use Ccleaner's registry scan to first find whatever is there. It will let you create a registry backup before deleting reg files. Cleaner (free version).
- Then go to the Run box and type regedit to bring up the registry.
- Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER>SOFTWARE and look for anything AVG.
- Also in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE.
Restart the PC and reinstall Avast again.
If Avast wont run after all that, you will want to contact them / their forum and ask what is happening.

I kept looking around after I sent the email question to you, and found the list of uninstallers on the Avast website. I used the one for AVG, and then Avast was able to install and all is fine now. Thanks anyway, but I could have used the answer sooner.
