My auto-rotate will not always work on my computer.  It seems that if I restart it then it will rotate as it is supposed to for a little while and then it just stops.

In the settings I cannot push the rotation lock button because it is faded out.

My key board does not shut off either when I flip the screen.  It is as if the computer does NOT realize that I even moved the screen.

Help??

@WilLiv

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have an HP Envy laptop and the auto rotate does not work always on the laptop. The auto rotate works for a while if you restart the laptop. The rotation lock button because it is faded out in the settings. I also read that the keyboard does not shut off when your flip the screen.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Please let me know the exact product model no. This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l
  • When was the last time the keyboard shut off and the auto rotate worked fine? Did any changes take place post which this issue may have started?

Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Press Win + R -> type 'regedit' and enter
  • Registry editor will open up.
  • Goto path -> HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AutoRotation
  • Check the value of Enable file if it is 0 rotation will be OFF, if 1 rotation will be ON.
  • Restart the laptop and Auto rotation should work.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to reply. I'm always here to assist you. Cheers! 🙂
