HP12C

Hi,

I am perplexed as to how the HP12C can perform correlations and covariance calculations.

Is it possible?

Chris

Correlation is mentioned on P80 of the User's Guide:

For covariance see p117 of the HP-12C Solutions Manual:

Hi Bart,

Thank you for providing your assistance.

I am trying to enter the covariance program into my HP12C so that I can continue using it.

I am entering the program steps but for some reason at Step 13 ( press RCL) it does not recognise the step & stays on Step 12 in the display.

Not sure you will be able to help me with this one!

Regards,

Chris

Hi!, @ChrisJ1972:

For correlation coeficient ... http://support.hp.com/ph-en/document/c01862460

For covariance and corretation example ... http://www.analystforum.com/forums/cfa-forums/cfa-level-i-forum/9872260

Work around it, by calculating the Correlation and solving for the Covariance.

r =COV(X,Y)/sx * sy

COV(X,Y) = r * sx * sy

Enter the Y’s and X’s

Y1 “Enter” X1 “sigma+”
Y2 “Enter” X2 “sigma+”
Y3 “Enter” X3 “sigma+”

Now calculate the sample std for x and y, “g” “s” “xy” “x” “STO” 0, this is your numerator

so that gets you the sample std for x and y and then multiple the two, that

1 “ENTER” “g” “xhat,r” “x<>y” = r “RCL” 0 “x” = COV(X,Y)

Hi Make,

Thanks for your help but I have found that sample Standard Deviation (SD) & arithmetic means do not give me the correct answer. Sorry this calculator is confusing. I know how to manually get the population sample for arithmetic mean & their SD but not sure how I would achieve this for covariance.

Chris
