When I plug in an htmi cable to project my screen the screen goes dark. I tried to see if there was a problem with the display settings and as you can see, the setting options under "multiple display" are not appearing. I tried uninstalling and updating the driver--same problem persists.
There could have been a recent software update but I am not sure.
The moment I plugged in my HTMI adapter into the laptop the screen would go blank (and it would not show up on the connected screen). If I looked under settings (as in the picture before), not settings for how to project to the second monitor would appear.
I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:
Let's perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant:
To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and select Check for updates. Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.
To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon .
Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
