Envy x360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I  have a brand new HP Envy that will not work on Chromecast. It starts to cast then freezes. I can hear the audio on the TV but the picture is frozen. I have seen a lot of search results with the same problem but I have yet to see a solution. I am running windows 10,  update to the latest version of Chrome.  Trying to cast to a 1st generation chomecast dongle and to a brand new Vizio TV with built in chormecast. I have the same problem on both TVs. Yahoo cast fine, if I connect directly to the TV wifi it works fine then to, but if I do that then I have no internet connection.  So there is obviously a setting on my new laptop stopping me from casting. My last HP laptop worked just fine up to two days ago (07/31/19) when the laptop hard drive went DOA.  I have searched on this forum and seen the same question asked but again I have not seen a solution.

Welcome to HP support community.

Provide the computer model number or the product number?

Meanwhile:

pdate the Bios and Graphics card driver using HP Support Assistant.

Download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: Click here

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Let me know how it goes.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

I have the same problem. HP Envy x360 15M-DR0012DX  (Product number 5XK97UA#ABA, s/n [edited]) purchased last month after I dropped my 2-year-old laptop and its hard drive died. Chromecast worked fine on the old HP laptop, but freezes after a few seconds on the new one. The problem is not with the Chromecast device - it works fine when casting from my phone, and it worked fine with the old laptop , casting to two different TVs. But I cannot get it to work with the new laptop.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

Next step, install the google chrome cast from this YouTube link and check if it works. Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4V4BTBgqH8

Please do not click on any website, ad, download or image as the link is a third party link. It is only for viewing it and following the on-screen instructions.

If this does not work, and your TV supports Miracast, then please try this link to project the screen of your computer to your TV HP Desktop and Notebook PCs - Sharing your Screen Using Miracast (Windows)  http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04228016

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
