ElitePad 900 G1
Microsoft Windows 8 (32-bit)

Have problem with Elitepad 900 Expansion Jacket Battery not showing present or tablet using it.  Battery is new and have updated bios and windows 8, 32.bit.  Cleaned connector and reseated tablet in the jacket, no change. The battery shows present only if the tablet is plugged in to AC  and battery disappears immediately when the AC plug is removed.  Other owners  appeared to have had this issue with jacket battery but I cannot find a solution.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Have you tried updating or reinstalling the drivers?

These are available for download here:

I suspect you will need the first driver from this category:
Software - Smart Jackets and Docks.

Updating the bios, chipset drivers and other system related drivers may solve your specific issue (as well as others).

I am a little confused as these drivers are for the retail dock.  Can you be a little more specific as to the exact driver associated with  the expansion jacket battery?  I have updated the firmware and drivers and did not resolve issue with the battery not showing present.

Thanks for you assistance!

To be quite frank. These Elitepad 900 G1 tablets [specifically their battery / charging systems] are garbage.

Our company bought about 20 of them + battery jackets for our staff. Probably 1/4 to 1/3 of them developed charging system issues within the first couple years. They were also always finnicky about "seeing" the second battery from the battery jacket(s), despite being properly 'seated'...

Right now I've literally got a stack of 7 of them in my office that are all basically junky paperweights due to battery / charging system issues (won't turn on when not plugged into the wall charger; immediately turn off when uplugged), and they're all outside of of warranty. It is endemic. The charging system is just prone to taking a random dump and needing to be replaced, and thus costing several hundred extra bucks each. 25-30% failure rate is rubbish.

I've kind of come to hate these things, honestly. They just suck up time and money on slow updates, updates that brick them (watch out for the Intel Thermal Framework driver that causes a shutdown loop that bricks it until you roll it back and hide the driver update from reinstalling), and charging system issues.

Little more than a hassle...

This appears to be one of the few lower grade HP pro(fessional) products.

Some of the issues seem to be related to product design flaws and others to lacking third party components (intel).

Personally, I don't have any experience with HP tablets, but I did notice similar and other issues with tablets from other brands as well.
An iPad is indeed quite reliable, which cannot be said of all products from the same company.

I somehow solved the problem of the battery not being charged in an HP 900 G1 tablet, I held down the power button and the slide button near the headphones for 15 to 20 seconds and I managed to get one tablet out of  four to charge ok. However I do not know how I accomplished this , but I do know it was on my docking station for over 2 hours.... I will let you all know if I get another one to charge this way. Russ
