I've had this tablet for about 6/8 months on test for my company.

Was working fine Sunday. Mon morning when i switched it on it went to the hp startup logo and circular timer saying "Preparing Automatic Repair"

I checked other support posts and have tried the following:

- holding volume button in while powering on to go into HP system menu.

- from here have run all system tests - all passed

- from this menu i've also tried HP Recovery, it loads files and then hangs with the blue windows 8 logo and circular eggtimer underneath..... I've left this for several hours and it really doesnt get any further.

- I've also left the Preparing Automatic Repair run for six hours and it doesn't get past that screen.

I have no keyboard until it boots into windows

I have no CD/DVD drive

My tablet is a brick unless I can get this sorted. Please Help!!?

Hi, Yes this is resolved.

As advised I contacted Tech Support, as the device is under warranty the device was sent for repair and when it was returned the solution stated that connectors were replaced internally....

working perfectly ever since!

If your tablet is stuck in "Preparing repair mode", try this: 1. Turn off tablet this way: Press Power button for 10 seconds or until screen gets turned off. If this doesn't work, try doing it with the tablet connected to the battery charger. Wait a little.
Now press Power + Vol(+), you will enter in a blue screen. Don't do anything there, just turn off again by pressing Power for a little bit. Now you can turn the tablet on as usual.

2.If screen doesn't get off... you could try waiting for battery to discharge, then screen will get off. Then charge the tablet again, and try to start it.

I hope this can help you Tablet won't start up or windows doesn't respond (READ) http://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-us/support/warranty-service-and-recovery/windows-stops-respondin...

About recovering/reseting the tablet Restore, refresh, or reset your tablet http://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-gb/support/warranty-service-and-recovery/restore-refresh-or-rese...

Have you looked near the micro sd slot in case there is a tiny reset button? Not sure if that tablet has it.

The guides are for the Surface but as it's windows tablet I think it can help 😉

Thanks again, but I don't have an issue with switching off the tablet.
i can switch it on and off but it sticks at the hp logo and says Preparing Automatic repair... I've left it in that state for several hours having read in another topic that it can take up to 4 hours, but the Automatic Repair never starts.

I don't get any options to restore, repair or otherwise at any point. The Windows 8.1 OS doesn't start.

One thing i can do is boot into the uefi, but the option for hp system restore doesn't start either and stays at the windows logo after it loaded the relevant files

The steps are these: Turning off the tablet this way: Press Power button for 10 seconds or until screen gets turned off. Wait a little. Now press Power button + Vol (+) to enter in blue screen. Don't do anything there. Turn off again by pressing Power. Now turn on the tablet again by pressing only the power. Windows should start as usual.
If this doesn't work, it could be Bios needs an update, or just try recovering the system (you should have a recovery usb drive or a micro sd card). If you don't have it call technical hp support.

Hi Bataki, thank for your reply again. I tried what you suggested and it makes no difference. I'll contact Tech support as you suggest.
