8 Note 5003
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi -

After lying around for a few days, my HP Envy Note 8 refuses to start.

No reaction when pushing the power button and when I plug it into the charger the power/charging LED flashes red.

Is it the end? or has the battery gone bad and can be replaced? or?

Many thanks in advance,

--Allan

@doooh

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

I understand that you have an HP ENVY 8 Note Tablet - 5003 and it does not start. When you connect the charger and press the power button, the power LED flashes red. I'd like to assist you with this case.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Did any hardware or software changes take place to the tablet after which this issue may have started?
  • Did you receive any error messages or beep codes?
  • Does the power LED blinks continuously or only for a few seconds?

Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Disconnect the charger from the tablet.
  • Disconnect any other devices connected.
  • Press and hold the power button fro 15 seconds and then release it.
  • Reconnect the charger and power on the tablet.

If the issue still persists then I suggest you to perform the steps as described in detail from this link: Computer Does Not Start and Emits an LED

NOTE: You may access the user guide if it required yo to remove the battery out for troubleshooting purpose.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Let me know. All the best! 🙂

As I said, the power/charge LED flashes red continuously (for hours) when I connect the power (it goes full-on white, full-on red, then starts to flash red). Pressing and holding power the button for any period of time without power/with power/connecting power makes no difference; no beeps or error messages - remember, this is a tablet, not a laptop.

I have only had the tablet for 1/2 year and I am very disappointed that (presumably) the battery has gone bad.

Can I purchase a new battery or have it serviced?

Hi @doooh,

I am  @Davidsmp. It looks like you were interacting with @MKazi.  As he is out of the office today let me jump in to assist you here. 🙂

I reviewed the post comprehensively. Spectacular diagnosis of the issue before posting again. It could make a certain Sherlock Holmes turn green with envy. 🙂  Hats off to you on that score. 🙂 I understand that the note 8 does not work or boot up.

The issue is hardware related and the unit needs to be serviced if service options are available. Please contact HP phone support for further assistance.

Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect

Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"

Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone number, Case number and phone number appear.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

If the unit is under warranty, the manufacturer’s warranty should take care of it for you.

Hope this helps.   I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂  Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you. 🙂

To simply say thanksplease click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.

If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. 🙂

Take care now and have a splendid week ahead. 🙂
