I'm in the same situation as many users here. My tablet was bricked after updating its BIOS via the provided sp71988.exe (which was quickly replaced by sp71989.exe within a day)  I'm in the US, warranty expired, and HP support rep told me they can't help me and that I have to find some third party service to try and fix it.  Very professional... 😕

I still have a copy of the  sp71988.exe which they quickly pulled from their site, if someone needs it.

Where did you find the sp71989.exe update?

I'm on the 5601tw support page and no driver or firmware updates are listed. All I see is just an update for HP Suppport Assitant Software.

They removed that file and replaced it with an older version of BIOS, the one that doesn't destroy your tablet.

You have to manually select Windows 8.1 on the download page to get the list of files available.

Dear All,

Did you solve the problem of your Omni 10  already?

Until now, I didn't get any information to fix it from you, also the solution to solve the problem from HP.  My tablet becomes a waste one, it's very sad. 😞

As a tablet, I restored myself. Flash the BIOS chip. I suppose it can be done without soldering. It is enough to make a bootable USB flash drive with NbDmiFit-2.08. Add to the file and try to flash the BIOS from under dos.

Dear All,

I think HP haven't found the way to solve this problem . If they have it, HP posted the solution to fix it on HP Service web.

The bios F08 is great mistake of them, damaging the  tablets operating normally.

It's regrettable and deplorable for HP.

Dear All,

I sent complaint to HP many times.  Today, I get the answer from HP:

" After diagnosis of our services team, finding shows that the unit is having a problem on its bootable device. Since the flash drive is imbedded to the mother board, the units mother board should be replaced.

Lastly, the unit is no longer under warranty. Given this, the cost of the parts needed for the unit to be repaired will be shouldered by the end user. As such, our last resort is to have the unit shipped back to its country of origin for the needed support."

For me, I think :

I'm disappointed because HP mail reply.

You should remember that before upgrade bios, my tablet operating normally and after bios upgrade it is bricked. On HP Service forum has many cases are damaged like my tablet. That proved to cause damage from the bios of HP. HP's technical staff had not checked before post bios on HP web site, should damage our tablet.

In my opinion, HP should be responsible for compensation for damage to me (although it's out of warranty). If not, the image and reputation of HP lost for clients. The reason I choose to buy your products because former HP is a great company with prestige, but now HP products and services is very poor, HP bring damage to the pc of customer and deny responsibility for the customers. That's worst for HP and never buy another HP.

Hi all

First of all thanks to Mr.Rong Zhao and john@no7 for providing their bios dumps, I flashed my device with the modified bios with my own information but the device did not booted up which I think because of CRC error due to modified file. I am so frustrated after so many attemps and spending hours flashing... I have written the important bios addresses below for anyone to experiment.

-Download the working bios update and create a usb flash recovery in orther to get the un-encrypted bios file

-Install and open the bios file in a hex editor application

-Enter your device information in the following addreses (all adresses are in hex format)

430014-430030 : Windows serial number

76E000-76E009 : Device serial number

76E040-76E04D : System board CT

76E070-76E07D : System board CT

76E0C4-76E0CE : Product Number

76E0D2-76E0Da : Device Name

435550-435556E : Device serial number with spaces after each character

**any change you make the file size must not exceed from 8192 KB

your serials reside in the back of back cover so you have to remove it (instruction to remove the back cover is provided in HP manuals google it...)

But I say again it will probably wont work this way...unless we flash the update file and use HP DMIfiT to enter device info.

PLEASE HP, PROVIDE US THE PROPER WORKING DMIFIT UTILITY or MAKE THE BIOS FOR US (it is all your fault HP!!!)
