Pavilion X2 10
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Good evening,

I have bought the Pavilion X2 10 detachable notebook one year and two months ago, and I have never had problems with it.

For a couple of days now I have been having problems with the charger apparently not being recognized by the notebook. I had this issue on and off on the first day it happened (it wasn't charging at first, then it started charging), then it was okay for a full day, and now I've been struggling with it for three to four hours, and it is not giving any signs of wanting to cooperate.

I have tried a couple solutions that were suggested on this forum, but they didn't work. I just find it really strange that I never had problems with it and now I do, all of a sudden.

Can you please suggest something I could do to try and solve my problem?

Thank you very much in advance!

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have an HP Pavilion X2 10 laptop and the charger is not being recognized by the laptop. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Please let me know the exact product model no. This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l
  • Do you see any damages to the ac adapter pin?
  • Does the charging port fine on the laptop?
  • Have you tried using a different ac adapter on the laptop (if available)?

Meanwhile, I suggest you to perform the following steps:

  • Power off the laptop.
  • Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the AC adapter.
  • Power ON the laptop.

If the issue persists then please perform the steps as described in detail from this link: Using and Testing the AC Power Adapter

I hope this information helps. Please feel free to let me know the outcome. Cheers! 🙂

Hi and thank you so much for answering!

Here is the information you requested:

  • Product model number: T9N87EA#ABZ
  • My laptop charges through USB C, and I don't see any damages on the charger
  • I haven't tried a different charger because I don't have a second one
  • I didn't understand "does the charging port fine on the laptop?"

I tried performing the steps you indicated, but while I was pressing the power button the laptop just automatically turned on, and I don't think it worked. Anyway, now it is not charging.

What I find really weird is that sometimes it does seem to work. The day  after I published my question on the forum, it did charge no problem for the whole day.

Do you think it might be a defect in the charging cable?

Thanks again for your help!

@ceci_apples

You're welcome. 🙂

It is quite possible that the battery has eventually drained out and the USB type C cable pin or the USB C charging port on the laptop has an issue because of which it does not charge.

I did some research and found that the computer does not power on if it is in Deep Discharge mode. This might occur when the computer has not been charged for a long period of time. This function is by design. When the computer is in deep discharge, it needs to be charged for at least 30 minutes, preferably 1 to 2 hours, before attempting to power it on. Refer to HP Guided Troubleshooter.

If it still does not work then you may try replacing the USB C charging cable or you may also reach out to HP phone support to explore the hardware service options for your laptop.

Feel free to let me know if you have any questions. All the best! 🙂
