I too am having this problem and have spent hours trying clean reinstall, new gmail address, redownload firmware. It seems to start as Google Play Services and Google play auto update. my suspicion is that there is a conflict between HP customised release and new version of Google Play release. It renders Slate virtually useless! Either Google need to fix or HP need to release update!!!!!!!!! Guy Uk

I have the same problem too. Hope they will do someting about it and very soon. Experienced the problem since december and tried everything (except making my tablet fly through the window!)...Many frustration and it seems to be related with google apps and hp version not compatible. Expecting a real solution soon from HP.
