We have two HP device models HP Slate 21 Pro and HP Slate 7, both the devices are not handshaking with our web server at all. Could not open the site in the webrowser also.
We captured the wireshark and found that the device is trying to handshake with TLS 1.0 which is disabled on the server.
Here is the Client Hello of the device, we could not see the Server Hello, I guess this is because the TLS 1.0 is disabled.
Upon applying the filter (ip.src== 10.8.0.1) && ssl, here is what we see:
According to SSL labs, Android 4.4.2 OS should ideally use TLS 1.2 why is your devices still trying TLS 1.0?
According to Android dev links, Android 4.4.2 in question does support this since API Level 16, as you can see here https://developer.android.com/reference/javax/net/ssl/SSLSocket.html, but it is disabled by default and only in API Levels 20+ they enabled it by default.
A similar example is listed here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/37222696/sslhandshakeexception-on-android-4-4-and-lower
Could you point me towards the exact cipher, mode, authentication, that HP slate supports? Something like below?
TLSv1.2 (TLS_DHE_RSA_WITH_AES_256_GCM_SHA384)
Note: All other Android devices, OEM's work like charm

Hello, and Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Unfortunately, I would not expect any further updates from HP with regards to Android updates.
They announced last year they were abandoning the entry-level Android tablet market.
Many of the support files users need are now missing from their websites...
Their online store shows no new Android tablets for sale. 😞
