HP Stream 7 Tablet
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)
I bought a HP Stream 7 tablet that started out fine however it is no longer turning on (convenient as it now out of warranty). I have had it in charge for a full day and still nothing. I've tried holding the power button, the power button + the volume down button, and various other things I've read elsewhere. I am officially out of ideas and in desperate need of help as I really need this tablet to work.

Hi, when you first plug the charger in, do you see the charging pictogram in the display for 6-8 seconds and then in disappears?  If not, the tablet is likely defective unfortunately.  You might also try another power source such as plugging the charging cable into another computer's USB port to rule that out.

When I plug it in to charge it, nothing happens, it simply remains a dark screen. I have tried plugging it into my computer but again, nothing happens. Every now and then when I'm trying to get it on by holding buttons, etc. I get a small flash of writing on the screen but it never stays long enough for me to read it unfortunately. I've only had the tablet for a year (and not used it much at all) so this would be very disappointing if it was broken already.

Okay, also try powering it up while holding both the volume up and volume down buttons together while it is plugged in to reset the BIOS if you have not already.  Finally, it sounds like the battery is not completely discharged if there is something flashing on the screen so running the battery completely down or disconnecting it to reset the CMOS might help also.

Nothing is happening I'm afraid. I've let the power drain and nothing happens. When I do put it in charge I get the flashes. However, just to clarify, the charger doesn't appear to go all the way into the slot (it's the charger that came in the box) - is this normal? Is it worthwhile ordering a different charger and trying that? If so, could you recommend one please. Csec is the brand of charger that came in the box.

Good evening - The same thing happened to my 7 Signature Edition 2 days ago and I have been using mine regularly/daily since I bought 2 months ago via Amazon. I had the small wriing on top of the screen a couple of times which mentioned 3 minuites! and once after that the battery picture. Nothing I have tried has brought it back to life. I used the chargng plug/cord which came with it then several others.  H E  L P!

Is it possible an update via Windows Update could have caused the problem! I am on 8.1 and dont auto update so I  choose to download and then update and they appear regulalry. Seems strange should happen to more than one person at similar time unless there are more who havent gone to print yet or are still tryong to charge and switch on! Just a thought

I decided to go out and purchase a different charging cable to see if that would make the difference and thankfully that was all that was required. I bought a £2 cable out of Asda and it does the job as now my tablet is charging and turning on etc. Strange that the HP charger won't work anymore, but at least that's it fixed now. Thank you for all your responses, I appreciate the help.

Well - after trying at least 8 separate and various combinations of cables/connections/laptops i went and bought another cable to no avail 😞 - decded to sit down today and write to Amazon to explore my options. While writing i decided to plug it in - nothing - switch it on - nothing- walked away. later in frustration decided to press the on button for longer period - nothing - as I looked away saw movement!!!! not fast enuff to read but then the battery picture showed for seconds. Left for a while then pressed and held on button - shortly after HP logo appeared 🙂 Couldn't believe my luck. left for a while pushed on button and there was my lock page!!!!!! checked the battery but it hadnt been flat - go figure!!!!!

not from an iThis, an iThat or an iAnything - Pure Windows 8.1 on a wonderful HP Stream 7 Signature Edition 😁👍

Good evening to all

Hi, glad you got it going, it might help to update the UEFI firmware from the hp.com site now if you have not already to prevent it from occuring again.
