Hi there, this is not a question but instead: a confirmed solution. There are some threads describing this issue and some replies marked as solution BUT there is no feedback and no, the issue was not solved. Don't trow away your HP Stream 7 tablet running Windows.
The problem: the HP Stream 7 tablet runs out of battery very fast. This appears on most models, some don't have this issue (very few) but it's because while there are lots of HP Stream 7 tablets, there are actually two different models with diff electronics. If your tablet runs out of battery without lasting 2 hours, here is the fix. Forget about resetting, forget those posts telling you to upgrade the BIOS (good luck if you find any firmware around) and forget about replacing the batter, NO, there is nothing wrong with the battery. You might waste your time trying to update the drivers as some forums tell you to, only to find you already have the latest drivers, so no.
I posted a detailed story on how to fix the issue here: http://kebris.com/pages/hp-stream-windows-tablet-battery-life-solved
In case you have trouble reading that or the link goes broken, removed or etc, then read this (please preserve the credits, honestly, I invested time on sharing this on my website and here despite many official HP threads offering no solution or just the usual "turn off, turn on, reset" so leave this as it is. It's in good faith.
The solution: you will have to disable some services because those are causing the issues, besides your tablet won't miss it and won't be limited in anyway because those services shouldn't be enable at all in the first place. Why? you will be surprised about the things Windows 8.1 With Bing features with limited functionality or absolutely disabled but you don't know about it (such as Remote Desktop). This tablet doesn't allow Remote Desktop at all by default, you can't connect to it and it took me a lot of time to find out reading official documentation. And sure, forget about that trick of keeping your tablet on mute, yes it works but it's not the solution, it's part of the problem.
- Go to Task Manager and disable RealTek Audio Manager
- Don't disable the RealTek Driver
- Disable Intel DPTF LPM Service Help
Remember you have to stop the services using the "services" are on Windows, sometimes you partially achieve success disabling things on the task manager but the service is already set as auto or enable, so keep in mind "disable" those.
You can disable other things you are absolutely sure you won't use, let's say bitlocker as an example.
Now restart and you will be surprised your tablet jumped from 1.5 hours to 4-6. Before the change the tablet won't hold the charge, the issue is sever, as severe as having the tablet suspended fully charged only to find out it's absolutely discharged the next morning, that severe. But with this changes your tablet will stay charged even while sleeping / suspended FOR DAYS, the whole week. Charge will go down slowly, really slowly.
Now you will find your tablet behaves a bit like most Android or Windows tablets in terms of battery life, no kidding.
Good luck.
