Pavilion DV7 Notebook
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

The HP Support Assistant on my PC crashes and force closes anytime I click on anything besides the settings button. It doesn't show an error message or anything, it just acts like it's loading for a second or two then closes itself. The support assistant worked just fine when I was running Windows 7 but I had to re-download and reinstall after upgrading to 8.1 and ever since then, it's had this issue.

@KyleCasey

Thank you for joining HP Forums.

I'll be glad to help you 🙂

As I understand, HP Support Assistant does not work on your notebook,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling HP Support Assistant?

Does this happen when you open other applications on your notebook?

Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:

Uninstall and reinstall HP Support Assistant:

  1. In Windows, search for an open Uninstall a program.

  2. On the Programs and Features window, select HP Support Assistant, then click Uninstall.

  3. Click Yes on the Programs and Features screen to confirm you want to uninstall HP Support Assistant.

  4. Restart your computer to complete the process.

  5. When the uninstall process is complete, open a Web browser and go to the HP Support Assistant website. Follow these steps to download HP Support Assistant:

  6. Click Download HP Support Assistant.

  7. When the download bar is displayed at the bottom of the screen, click Save.

  8. When the download completes, click Run, then follow the on-screen instructions. This might take a few minutes to complete.

  9. When the installation completes, select Yes, then click Finish to restart the system.

  10. When the system restarts, the HP Support Assistant  icon displays on the task bar. Click the icon to open the application.

Let me know how this goes,

Cheers!
