HP laptop running Windows 10; front left port will not recognize a microphone plugged in

HP Recommended
HP 15-af131dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

At the front left of my HP laptop is a port for plugging in a headset (not USB, just the metal kind of plug).

I plugged in a professional microphone but got the "invalid device" error message.

If I go out and update drivers, will headphones still work in that port or will it only work the mic from then on?

A simple question, but hoping there's a simple answer  🙂

@JBEV19,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Yes, the headphone should work even after updating the drivers if the port is not defective.

The headphone jack on your computer doesn’t support optional Microphones. Please refer to the below service guide (Page 😎 for your computer for more information.
