I have not used my HP Touchpad for 2 or 3 years however, I just remembered to give it to my 11 year old son as I know he will love it.  No one needs to tell me that the battery might have been drained so we looked for a charger that would fit it.  When plugged to the wall, thre is a small horizontal light that runs across just above the center buttom.  It's been like this for 5 hours.  I thought then that the reason it was not turning on is because I am using a wrong charger as this was a cell phone charger that I was using.  After several hours, the touchpad will not turn on still.  I went online and bought the right chager for HP but to my disappointment, it's still doing the same thing.  The small light is running left to right but the hp still won't turn on.   Can  someone please help me on what is the best thing to do or what could be worong with my phone?  Thank you fla all your help

Try the following:

1 Press and hold the power button.

2 While still holding down the power button, press and hold Center

until the HP logo appears (about 15 seconds).

That has worked for me many times when I haven't used my TouchPad for a while and it does not want to turn on. Please let us know if it worked for you.

Hello, and Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Even if/when you get the TouchPad to boot, the world has changed in major ways.

There is no support left for this device.

The servers are gone.  HP killed them back in early 2015.

You have some decisions to make to keep using this tablet.  Please view the stickied messages at the top of the list here in this section for options.

The light is a good sign.

The standard advice is to  use a phone charger to trickle charge. This is because if the battery is really flat, the charging circuit won't activate. Some leave it plugged in for a week, but a few days should do... though 2-3 years is a long time.

The TP WILL need the original HP charger you bought as it needs more than the mere 5V 1A put out by a standard charger to charge at any useful rate in normal use.

I can't vouch for this info, but it's an interesting read:

Hopefully, you will get enough charge in the battery to wake the charging circuit, then the original charger can be used to get it to full charge. If the TP boots to your original installation, you will need a few fixes for some services.

If not, you will need to reinstall and bypass the activation (see the post at the top of the forum).

Note it's very hard to 'brick' any webOS device. Outside of hardware failure, they mostly can be made to work again - depending on your persistence. webOS can be used with home-brewed fixes and there are three or four operating systems that can be installed including fairly modern version of Android.
