HP50 g graphic calculator

Hi everyone,

Hope someone can provide solution on this issue. Recently purchased an HP50 graphic calculator. The issue I have is that the display screen produced truncated numbers eg. I expected the result to be 120.23456, the calculator produce '120. .....' on one instance and another '71.78 ....'  (expected number is 71.78453). The suffix dots ' .....' is actually produced on the display screen.

Such truncation is totally unexpected for such a premium calculator! How can it passed the quality check and testing during production??

I refer to the user guide and it says the default font is size 8, there are only size 7 and 6. Initially I thought the font size 8 is too big for the display screen to show the full numeric results. I changed the font to the size 7 -- same problem. I then tried the font size 6. The result was the same --- truncation still happened.

Anyone  has the same problem and possibly a solution to ths issue. I need resolution by end of the week due to forecoming exam.

Appreciate your help.

Thanks.

Hi,

On the bottom line the calculator should display integers and strings up to about 20 digits, after which a right arrow shows.

If flag -65 is not set (All multiline) the all other levels will show right arrow when the line is full.

If flag -65 is set (Level 1 multiline) the all other levels will show "..." when the integers/string exceeds line length.

Note I stated above "integers" as floating point numbers will only show max. 12 digits plus exponent and always be fully displayed in "Standard" display mode.

Try resetting the calculator:

Press ON then F1 and F6 holding them together. Release in reverse order. Press "NO" when prompted to recover memory.

This will completely reset the calculator.

In MODE -> DISP and choosing font there should be Font 8, Font 7 and Font 6 available (there should also be a Browse for finding fonts you have loaded yourself).

Regards.

-Bart

Hi,

If you don't have it already, you may also want to download the Advanced User's Reference Manual (v2) from this web page:
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02836298

Another useful resource is HP Calc:

Look under "HP 49 Series"

Hi,

If the reset does not work, you may need an update of the ROM.

The files can be found here:

http://www.hpcalc.org/details/7097

It includes a PDF with a description of the methods to perform the update.

(I personally found the SD card method to work best - no USB software to try and install).

If you have any further problems, feel free to ask.

Regards.
