HP 50G

I'm wondering if the HP 50g can graph conics, like (x-4)^2 = 4 (2) (y-8), without having to solve the equation for y.

Thanks,

Hi,

Yes it can.

Write your equation in the equation writer (EQW), then save it to variable 'EQ'

When you go to "Y=" input form, you will see your equation.

In "2D/3D" set Type to Conic and set Indep to 'X' and Depnd to 'Y'

In "WIN" set the H-view and V-view to the expected ranges and the Low, High and Step to Default (press NXT and RESET value to set to Default).

Then select DRAW (F6) (remember to ERASE (F5) if there is a previous graph present in the graph window).

Regards.
