Whenever I press shift+4(for the matrix menu), and start entering complex values in the matrix, they turn into NaN(not an number). How do I get around this issue?  I'm gonna need that for a lot of AC circuit problems in which the elements of the system of equations are complex valued.

Hi!, @Bishamonten:

See, this video in Spanish Language ... https://youtu.be/SSWMOgBt2eY

And the examples, for HP PRIME, from ... http://www.hpcalc.org/prime/science/

Kind Regards !.

Hi Maké, it does not seem that your video creates matrices normally like you can do with real valued numbers.  Is there no way to create complex valued matrices without the NaN error?

Hi!, @Bishamonten:

I'm not understand what you write.

NaN = Not a Number

The first video have AC circuits with complex numbers.

Note: The examples of electrical circuits in the site www.hpcalc.org don't serve for you ?.

See page 516 in the latest edition of the User Guide. From the Virtual Calculator, select Help > User Guide.

This section will describe how to make vectors and matrices with complex numbers.

Thanks mark4flies!  However, I am following page 516 as it instructs me to do, I enter a complex value in a matrix by pushing enter with 6 + i for example, and when I do that the resulting matrix becomes full of NaN values.

What am I doing wrong here?

I am not sure. I just made a row vector with a few complex numbers, including 6+i, without any difficulty. I would check your Home settings. The first page has a setting for complex number representation: 'a+bi' or '(a,b)' are your choices. I don't think this setting matters for input, though.

I hope that someone from HP might reply with a better answer. I can't reprioduce your problem so I really don't have any idea what is causing the NaN result. Sorry I can't help you this time.

So you just go to the matrix menu and select one of the matrices M1-M9, and enter in a value such as 6+i?  Are you using textbook input mode or RPN input mode?  I usually go with RPN but I don't mind switching a different input mode just for this to work.

Is it possible that my calculator's firmware needs to be updated?

The matrix for complex number, run OK.

You can update, the ultimate Firmware, from ... ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/calculators/Prime/

You needed delete all of the previous Firmware, included the Register's.

Kind Regards !.
