Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am unable to open jpg files using Photos app which is the recommended app by Windows. I tried uninstalling, repair and reset and still not working. When I try to open jpg files a display box appears describing that this app didn't start.

If the Windows Photo App from the Windows Store does not work, then the instructions and help you have seen on the net from Microsoft (and other interested parties) should fix the problem  In general, application failure is not something directly connected to your brand of computer.

In case you have not done so,

Settings > Update and Security > Windows Updates >Check for Updates

If any updates are installed, Restart the computer and log in

Also, update / check your HP Software and Drivers.  Do this manually or perhaps using the HP Support Assistant.  If any updates are installed, Restart the computer and log in.

No joy?

Look for alternatives - if the .JPG files are in usable format (clean, not corrupted) AND if the Windows file system is OK, you can use lots of other programs (software) to open image files.

=========================================================

Open your .JPG files using photo editing software

Example

Irfanview > Free

Irfanview provides a free program that can be used for a variety of scan and print tasks, including the “Mirror” or horizontal flip function.

  • Create a Restore Point (optional, recommended)
  • Download the appropriate version (32bit or 64bit) of the program from the Website and install the program
  • Additional information at the website, including: FAQ

Once installed, open the software > tab Help

Example help entry:

Vertical/Horizontal Flip

  • Click on the Image Menu, then Vertical Flip. The image will turn upside-down. The left/right orientation will stay the same.
  • Click on the Image Menu, then Horizontal Flip. The image will turn side-to-side, as in a mirror.

Note: The effect can be used on a smaller portion (rectangle selection) of an image, as well as the entire image.
