My Tungsten E will use a Kodak 2G SD card, but my wife's Zire 31 will not. I only have a 64mb and a couple 2gb cards that I use, so there it is.....

Palm Mini SD adapter with 1GB mini SD card will not work in my TX. After inserted says it needs formated. I press OK to format and it says no card found. Card in adapter works in SD slot on my PC

Using a Sprint Treo 700p with 1.10 ROM update here. Transcend 8GB SDHC card appears to work fine. Built in "Card Info" program reports the size and available free space incorrectly. The program appears to be using unsigned, 32-bit values for its size reporting which are limited to = 4GB numbers. Other PalmOS programs I have installed also have the same issue. One on particular is the current version of DocsToGo from DataViz. Their desktop component reports an incorrect available size in a similar fashion. I reported the problem to them. They responded by saying that their desktop component, which does not directly interact with the card, gets the size from PalmOS. They concluded it is a PalmOS problem. Regardless, I have had no data issues or corruption so far.

:^/ If the Palm's file system uses 32-bit addressing, you'll continue to have no trouble until you try to add files past the 4.3 gigabyte barrier. (2³² = 4,294,967,296, or 4.3 decimal billion.) After that, 32-bit file systems run out of numbers to describe what part of the media to write to, and so start over again at the begining. Your oldest files, stored at the begining of the medium will get corrupted first, followed by the later ones, and so on.

I suggest testing this with large dummy files at first, before trusting important data to the card.

;^) I currently own the Tréo 755p (Sprint) too, but own only a 2GB memory card. It would help to be certain that larger cards actually work well before investing in anything larger....

I have a Verizon Treo 700W. I have successfully used a Topram 4 GB card for about two years with no problem. It is only about half full, so I don't know if there are issues when it gets crowded.

The A-Data 8 GB SDHC card I use in my camera is recognized on insert and eject (the phone makes the default sounds), but the folder does not appear. I am guessing that the HC nature of this card is the problem.

Does anyone know if there is a software upgrade to make this phone able to read HC cards? Or an adapter of any kind?

Thanks!

Very helpful info - didn't know about the barrier.  That may explain my experience.

I am trying 8G.  I have 4G cards from different manufacturers, and all work on my 700p (Verizon).  I use P-Tunes (Normsoft player version 4.0 deluxe) without problems, have my cameraphone fotos saved on the card etc.  These are SDHC cards.

New Patriot 8G card is also SDHC of course.  700p reads it, but reports only 3,7610.6 GB in card info. I tried formatting but it failed.  I can read it in my HP Vista OS card slot, and it reads as 8GB capacity.  I saved a 6 mb mp3 to the card that way.  Card is read in P-Tunes and it plays the .mp3.

So, a) If I add 5 GB of material, what happens? (I assume from your comment the initially written 1GB gets overwritten)  b) is there a way to get the file system to read beyond 2³²?  c) Will Palm ever get a new OS?

It only cost $37 at Fry's so I can always use it to powerboost memory on Vista (though I no longer have expectations for that OS either.)

Oops, Typo, I meant it reads 3710.6 GB, not 37610.6GB

At the present time Palm does not support the "SD HC" memory cards. These cards are the higher capacity - hence the HC in the name. I use several 4 gig cards in my various Palms (1 gig in the Sony Clie) but I have not found a card higher than 4 gig that is NOT an HC card.

I have recently purchased a Treo 755p (Verizon) and a SanDisk 4GB micro SDHC card with adapters.  My device will not recognize the card at all.

I have spoken to the Tech at the Verizon store, he checked with someone who told him that the 755p will only accept a true mini SD card at 4GB.  I have researched a source for such a card and it seems as they don't even make one.  A Palm Tech person referred me to the Palm Store and all they sell is the micro SDHC with the adapter, this card is even listed as the right card for a 755p.

What's the deal here, why would Palm claim to support a card that does not exist and not support the one that does exist?  I understand that the SDHC cards have a diferent format from the SD cards; however, I have a 1GB SDHC card in my phone and that works.  I would presume that the formating of the 1GB vs 4GB would be the same.

Can anyone shed any light on this?  Is there a 4GB card that the 755p will accept or does anyone know if Palm is preparing a patch for the OS to allow it to read the SDHC format?  Is there something diferent about the Palm branded 4GB micro SDHC card that they sell in the store that allows it to work where others won't?

I would appreciate any help that I can get here.

Thanks,
Bob
