so my touchpad has been dead for 5 months. i left it on charge for a week and it still will not turn on.  ive tried re screwing the cap on the charger, ive tried pressing all the butons, the power button, ive tried using different chargers.

nothing is working. should i buy a charger with a higher voltage? or should i get the battery replaced?

The subject of this thread is the power/charge symbol on the screen.

It's hard to know from this side of the screen.  I would suggest going from least-expensive to most.  You could replace the cable first, or buy a whole new TouchPad charger.  Unfortunately, there's no way to know if getting the battery replaced will resolve the issue without trying it, if replacing the charger does not work.

make sure the system is connected to a power sources.  Hold the power button and the home button for 10 seconds.  It shoud either reboot to the WEB OS screen or power off.  If the battery comes back up, keep performing the actions above.  It will eventually reboot and start working again!

I was astonished that the Touchpad rebooted in about 3 minutes after changing just the USB cable. I had previously left it on the charger for over a day but still had the problem but also left it on the Touchstone wireless charger for days, something I don't think anyone else in this thread has mentioned and it doesn't work either.

Given that I had two charging methods and neither worked, I concluded it was some sort of software lock so tried to let the battery run down to zero so it wouldn't even give the error screen but a few days of that wasn't enough. I'd tried holding down the buttons, rotating the barrel part of the charger and thought about taking the battery out (it cures my phone when it gets stuck) but I was unable to get the back off. There is a Youtube video that makes it look fairly easy but not only could I not do it but I later found this (http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing+HP+TouchPad+Battery/6082/1?singlePage) which indicates there is potential to damage things. I also tried sticking an unbent paper clip down the hole in the top thinking there was a hardware reset switch but don't do that as it is the microphone. The cable that is successfully charging appears identical to the one that failed to charge so I'm going to label it.

So, a regular USB to mini-USB cable for a phone and the Touchstone wireless charger, appear to work only when the battery is partly charged and can't recover from full discharge. A great time waster but it's working again so thank you to null0000 for your insight.

My bosses touchpad would not turn on. Plugged it overnight, still nothing the next day. Completely black and not responding to anything until we connected it to an AC outlet using the original AC adapter and cable, and hit the power button (top right edge) and the center button (lower center of touch screen) at the same time for 15 seconds (this was rumored to do a reboot on other posts). This caused the light to alternate in the center button back and forth, I then got a large battery icon in the center of the screen that had a lighting bolt in the middle and a red line near the flat end of the battery. This would switch to an AC plug icon if I removed the usb cable from the touchpad.

I called support about 20 minutes after this happened and about five minutes into the call was put on hold. During the period I was on hold the unit booted on it's own  seemingly normal and indicated the battery was charging normally.

I suspect your battery has completely drained, and locked up the system some how.

Hope this helps.

I'm having problems getting my hp touchpad to turn on. It was on and when I got to the doctor's office and tried playing it . It wouldn't do anything I tried every solution mentioned even bought an original power cord for it still nothing. Don't have no life or any indication if it's charging. Had it plugged up for 3 days and still nothing. If possible can you send me the hp helpline number. I'm so oops disappointed
