Elite x2 1012 G1
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I use a HP Elite x2 1012 G1 tablet running Windows 10 (64bits). When using it in tablet mode, I cannot get an automatic rotation of the screen when rotating it from landscape to portrait and vice versa.

I suspect that the driver for the Orientation sensor is not installed. I tried installing the MS generic "Simple device orientation sensor" but no change.

Any idea how to solve this?

Thanks in advance

It is unfortunate that two months later there is still no response to this problem from HP.  We ordered 10 of these (T8Z06UT#ABA and T8Z10UA#ABA) and had the same problem with 9 out of 10 of them.  We spent three weeks on calls with a total of 5 HP "Elite Services" reps, always at their convenience and always repeating the same steps over and over again before they would allow us to try a new step (44 man hours total).  We have reset the machines to the original specs multiple times to the default setup and custom setup, installed every HP and Intel driver and firmware update they would throw at us, and cannot even count how many times we sent screen shots to them showing there is no option anywhere to change auto-rotation in Setting, Control Panel or Graphics Control Panel. They never admitted there was a problem with this unit, but finally gave up trying to resolve it and we are shipping everything back to them for a refund.  BTW - We paid for on-site next day warranty service on our units and they refused to ever send out a technician in person to resolve this issue.

Note - this same unit has a graphics issue that flickers when changing between programs if running two or more programs at once.  It seems to happen a lot more when the Chrome browser is open, but happened even when Chrome was shut down and not running in the background.  Since they could never resolve the screen rotation problem we never got to address this issue.

For me and my tablet, and my phone I found turning auto-rotate off in Display then re-booting, then turning it back on did the trick.

With both you may have to re-boot both times.

Hope this helps; let me know how it goes.

No matter what I tried i could not resolve it, I even tried resetting the tablet and starting from scratch. The only thing I can think of is that the windows 10 - 1511 update broke it because it was after that when I noticed it. However resetting it only takes you back to scratch with the 1511 update installed with no way to remove.

Luckily when I first bought the tablet I took a system image of it which was before it go the windows 10 - 1511 update. I restored the system image and auto rotate was working, I then updated all the drivers again and auto rotate was still working, I've since been brave and installed the 1511 update again and auto rotate is still working,

So truth be told I don't know what actually caused it to stop working but the steps I took to get it working again are above. Not sure how this would help with people who don't have a system Image though but I suspect it was an issue with windows rather than the devices themselves

I have the same problem with my x2. It work after reinstall. Then, after a hard reboot the rotation Button is missing and auto rotate do not work in tablet mode.

Together with this problem reinstall GPS sensor do not work, this audio devices was removed and fingerprint is also not available.

First that we thought was that bitlooker and virus scanner are the problem. After a new reinstall it work... until the pc was shut down and restart.

HP is involved but could not send a solution till now.

Hey everybody, I know I'm resurrecting an old thread but it's high on the search results for this issue still, which * I * just now encountered, having bought an Elite x2 from eBay.

I found a stupid easy solution at http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-10-x2-PC/7439381/model/7499063/document/c04740788.

While this still hasn't given me the button in the taskbar drawer to turn it on and off, it DOES make the device autorotate. Good enough for me.

Just press ctrl-O (not zero)!
