No sound, to fix ran a troubleshoot and fix. Computer will not reboot. Stuck @ Recovery Manager

Here is my memory of how this problem developed. HP site suggested an update the sound problem. I downloaded the update, Randy update, after some time elapsed the external monitor remains black. I opened the laptop to view its screen and found the laptop in recovery mode.
