My problem:  My password to open the laptop works from a cold start.  If the machine goes to sleep, due to inactivity, the password will no longer be recognized to wake it up.  You have to totally re-boot the machine for the password to work again.  Not acceptable!

Welcome to HP Support Forums. A really great platform for posting all your questions and finding solutions.

I understand that you are unable to log back in after the Notebook goes to sleep.

I'd like to help.

May I know since when are you facing this issue?

The user Account might be corrupted. I suggest you create a New User Account with Admin rights.

  • Select the Start  button, then select Settings  > Accounts > Family & other people > Add someone else to this PC

  • Enter a user name, password, password hint, and then select Next.

If the issue started recently, you can also try a System Restore to an earlier time before the issue started.

- Select the Start button, type control panel and then choose it from the list of results.
- Search Control Panel for Recovery.
- Select Recovery > Open System Restore > Next.
- Choose the restore point related to the problematic app, driver, or update, and then select Next > Finish.

Keep me posted how it goes.

Thank you. 🙂
