Hi @Step12,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To reinstall the original Windows 8.1 on your HP Stream 7, you'll need to obtain the official recovery media, which may include the factory image that was originally shipped with the device. Here’s how you can proceed.
Obtain the Recovery Media from HP
HP used to offer recovery media downloads or physical media for their devices. Here's what you can do:
Check HP Support:
- Go to the HP Recovery Media page to see if you can order a recovery USB or download the recovery image.
- You will need the serial number and product number of your HP Stream 7. You can find this information on the device's back or under system settings (Settings > About).
Use Microsoft’s Recovery Tool
If you can’t get the official HP image, you can download a clean copy of Windows 8.1 from Microsoft and manually install it:
- Download Windows 8.1 ISO:
- You can get a Windows 8.1 ISO from Microsoft's official page.
- Create a Bootable USB Drive:
- Use tools like Rufus or Windows Media Creation Tool to create a bootable USB drive.
- Install Windows 8.1:
- Boot from the USB drive and follow the instructions to install Windows 8.1.
- You might need to manually install drivers for your HP Stream 7. You can get these drivers from the HP Drivers & Software page.
Revert via Recovery Partition (If Available)
If the recovery partition is still intact on your HP Stream 7, you may be able to restore the original OS without needing external media:
- Check for Recovery Partition:
- Restart the tablet and press Esc or F11 during boot to enter the recovery options.
- If the recovery partition is available, follow the on-screen prompts to revert to the original Windows 8.1 installation.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
