Slate 10 HD 3609ea
Android 8.0 Oreo and older

So, we're trying to clean up an old Slate 10 HD 3609ea tablet.

I've done a factory reset, but I'd like to re-install the OS / firmware.

I have downloaded "update.zip" from the HP site here:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL63178/ob-155818-1/update.zip

But the tablet doesn't appear to find the /sdcard/ folder

The microSD card is 1GB and has been formatted as FAT32 as per the instructions here:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04075244

So, I tested the update.zip archive on another laptop and the ZIP file appears to have an error when testing the archive:

testing: DTim.CP bad extra-field entry:
EF block length (0 bytes) invalid (< 4)

Downloading again and downloading other firmwares also appear to have this problem.

Is that a "proper error" used for some reason to validate the download is from HP??

Or, is the real problem the fact that the tablet is just not seeing the microSD card? - in which case, how can I resolve that?

Thanks!

Hi @FamilyTechGuy

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Appreciate you trying the steps. This looks like a hardware issue, I'd suggest you Contact HP in your region regarding the service options for your tablet.

If you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty. If yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from. Check next to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it.

Have a great day!

Hi Asmita,

  Thanks for the response!

Yes, looking up the serial shows that this is out of warranty now.

So - just to clarify - if the microSD slot was working, then should I be able to the contents, no matter what files are on the (FAT32) card?

If so, then yes, this does look like a hardware issue.

Is there another way to load the firmware?  USB?

Thanks!

@FamilyTechGuy,

I recommend you try using the same SD card on a different device or use a different SD card on the tablet to make sure whether the issue is with the SD card or with port on the tablet.

You need to contact support and they will assist you with the available service options.

Cheers!
