If people start selling their Slatebooks, eventually it may end as the touchpad ($99 sale). I got mine for $200 brand new, overall satisfied with it and totally worth the price I paid for. Comparing to my TF300T and TF700, I will make a quick comparison with the TF300 since TF700 is in another league.

Slatebook X2 Pros: Tegra 4, Full HDMI Port on Dock, Dock included within the price a la Surface 2, SDXC Port with support up to 64Gb, battery lasts 12-13 hours with dock(as long as you have Balance Power Mode on) .That's it

Slatebook X2 Cons: 1080p Screen is Subpar but Workable, tablet lacks micro SD memory slot, only 16Gb onboard, volumen and power buttons in the back feel weird, No GPS, no Ambient light sensor, 2 Megapixel camera, are you kidding me HP?, this is 2013 no 2009, yellowish screen(with latest HP update it has been half-fixed), Mine has a light bleeding at the left side of the screen(Doesn't bother me).

Comparing to my old Transformer TF300T

Better and larger Touch Pad on the Slatebook X2

TF300T was $379 2 years ago and came with comparable plastic materials, 32GB, microsd port and micro HDMI port on tablet, has propietary cable and offered USB computer connection outside the box, has a unlock bootloader, and a has a huge support community. Resolution was only (1280x800) those were pretty good specs back in 2011(1Gb RAM,32GB)

internal)

TF300T has GPS,ambient light sensor,8 Megapixel camera w/autofocus, TF300T and all the Asus Transformer line have the infamous I/O Issue(SubPar performance on I/O read/write operations which translates on Sluggish web Browsing),that required heavy Custom Software tweaks to be able to make manageble.

As you can seen, nothing is perfect, those were the reasons why I decided to put my Asus Tablets on ebay. I had a TF101(Power button broke within a week),Tf201(GPS fiasco),TF300T(overall the best one),TF700(slow for a 1080p screen with I/O issues, blame Tegra 3 and Asus for it), Curently I have a nexus 7 2013, Ipad 4, and a Sony Xperia Tablet Z, which only needs a Sony Dock to be the perfect machine. Sony Lacks the Nexus 10 support for example and there are no 3rd Party Roms for it, however it's possible to root and unlock without a sweat thanks to Sony Fantastic Support to Open Source Proyects(AOSP).

Conclusions: for the price I paid is a steal, it should be priced within $300-$350 range. I'd gladly pay $550 for this tablet if they include: USB computer connection, GPS,Ambient Light Sensor, MicroSD slot on tablet and Backlight Keys on Dock.

When Comparing games from IOS(5.1.1 & 6.01) to android 4.2.2 for example, Plants vs Zombies 2, I tried it on the Slatebook X2 and runs and feel choppy some times. Same game on my Ipad 4 or Ipad 3 from my wife feel a lot smoother, responsive and faster. This may be a platform port issue or Tegra 4 issue(still need optimizations) rather than a Slatebook X2 issue, in comparison the same game performs better on my Xperia Tablet Z than my Slatebook X2 but not as good as the Ipad 3/4. Overall I like my Slatebook X2,The biggest issue I have so far is after working for a while with my MacBook Pro Retina or the Gorgeous Screen on my Sony Xperia Tablet Z and or HTC One Phone ,and have to use my Slatebook X2, then you see how cheap the screen quality is. For the vast majority of the people, they won't even notice.

No USB cable, I can't transfer the files between my pc and slatebook and I have to using USB pen drive or cloud storage or external HDD. The Slatebook can't root without the USB cable, that's mean cannot custom rom and no cyanogenmod support. And the Android OS still 4.2, now the Google already updated to 4.4 KITKAT. The HP don't even mention when I can update the Android OS, whether is 4.3 or 4.4 or maybe 4.2 forever.

This is my last HP product, I never ever buy it again, I really disappointed about this HP Slatebook X2. I would sold it and buy the new Asus Transformer.

Hi,

I'm curious as no USB cable is included in package. What are the options for dev enthusiasts to start with tinkering?

Thanks!

We need to get root on the slatebook X2.

First we need to be able to move apps to the sdxc card. 16gb is not enough for our main apps/games, etc.

without the root this can't be our main computer/tablet/device at home.

Overall 2 members of my family are satisfied with their Slatebook X2's(they bought those specific devices because I told them so). They keep asking about any doubt they have with their machines.

For end-users they are not going need to root, only when they are about to be running out of space on their Slatebooks. For enthusiasts user, power users and geek users, root is a must.

This is always a risk when you don't buy the most popular products. The reason why I bought mine was Tegra 4,Dock and Price. I feel jelous when found out australia is getting 64gb slatebooks x2 version.

Hopefully HP will hear our requests and release a USB Data cable(eventually).and this cable is definitely gonna be propietary($$).

Come on, Is not there any nice HP employee who could answer on the plans for a cable or at least tell us the pin-outs so we could create our own cable? I am sure some are willing to pay - just like me!!

For my part I really do not care about root, i just want to be able to charge through USB / Transfer fiels to/from my PC and to be able to debug with ADB.

As per hp web there is no data cable for slatebook.

But today I found in a shop a slatebook X2 beside an envy X2, both connected to their ac adapters. I pulled off the connectors and were identical: I connected the envy AC cable to slatebook and worked ok. And this may be so fro other HP X2 devices.

So anyone knows usb cables for envy x2 or other x2 devices? (no standar usb cables of course)

Thanks

I know it is a very competative market out there and companies like HP are always trying to maximise profits but...

Why on Earth did HP go with such an ordinary display? The screen is one area where you can't cut corners and while I can live with the screen I feel cheated that HP were so concerned with maximising profits that they even contemplated cutting corners in this most important area.

Also, no GPS? why??? I can buy a cheap phone/pad from China for $50 with GPS... not happy HP.

HP could have had a huge hit with the X2 and sold many more units if it was made more user friendly AND if people had the option to root the device. Word of mouth over the internet is where a product succeeds or fails and when it comes to the X2 I am constantly hearing from people who wanted to/were going to purchase an X2 but didn't because of something as mundane as not being able to root THEIR device. Their device HP, we bought it, we own it, it is ours and we would like to use it in the ways WE choose.

Lastly, why oh why oh why does HP make connecting this unit to a pc so to transfer files etc so difficult. I've never known a tablet (I've owned five) not to be able to easily connect via USB to a pc.

I ordered the USB/Debug Cable from HP, it is part number 728141-001 and is referred to as "SPS-MICRO USB TO USB CABLE" which is very confusing because there is no micro-usb connector on it.  It was not cheap ($AUD 50)HP_CABLE.jpg

Almost hate to say it but my new (Feb 2014) Slate 10 included a standard USB to micro USB cable which plugs into the A/C adapter (the USB end) the Slate has a micro USB port (just like you would expect) - sounds like some models don't have this ?  (my Samsung tab has a proprietary (no microUSB) cable)) it also runs 4.2, been wating / hoping for KitKat (same for the Slate) (((not sure if I have a 3500US, 3510us or a 3600us, & not sure if it matters)))

You may have the two products mixed up.

We've got the HP Slatebook which is a different product from your HP Slate which is purely a tablet.

The Slatebook (called HP SlateBook 10-h010nr x2 PC on the US website) is found under the laptop/hybird section. So the Slatebook doesn't have a micro USB port.
