I just received mine back from repair.
On the included customer receipt, the only repair action taken was "Updated Device Driver", which doesn't seem very forthcoming considering that I allowed HP repair to take control of the device on chat and they attempted updating drivers and it didn't resolve anything other than the confirmation that I had to send it in.

gnober, here is a screenshot of my device manager too

There is a sensor category, but I don't remember what it had before I sent it in for repairs.

Hi

Do you what/which drivers did they updete in repair?

Having the same problem. I have run some sensor test apps, and none of them founds ANY sensors. Neither does the device manager.

I got mine repaired also. Motherboard was changed after some issues with memory and wireless network adapter. Screen rotate / sensor problems started right away. Actually, sensors didn't work at all after the repair. HP's customer service is blaiming me, Msft and Intel but they refuses to take the responsibility.

They never stated which drivers, the repair just vaguely stated that they "Updated Device Driver".

My only advice is to stay firm with them that this is becoming a well documented issue after motherboard replacement.
They had also tried to push blame on me and the Windows 10 update, but since my device was still on Win 8.1 when returned from initial repair, exactly as it was when I purchased it, I refused to accept any other solution than them honoring my warranty.

And if they hadn't, I was almost ready to resort to opening up the windows folder and start deleting with reckless abandon.... although probably not haha.

I did run a sensor test since I couldnt remember I did after the second repair, and I do get readings for 6 sensors, including accelerometer, gyrometer and inclinometer, where I didn't before.

Just want to add that I have the same problem:  motherboard failed, sent it out for repair, didn't have my laptop for 2 1/2 weeks, which is my primary work tool.  Now it doesn't rotate at all, which worked fine before I sent it out.  Installed Windows 10 feeling hopeful...no option at all to rotate the screen other than manually.  Feeling extremely frustrated that my expensive laptop, purchased specifically to use in tablet mode for client presentations, is a lemon.

I joined the forum tonight just so that I could add my experience, which seems similar to all of yours.  It sure helped me to learn about the motherboard issue last month when the computer completely shutdown mid-work.  So, just adding this as a way of helping others.

I just figured out how to go in an edit the registry...autorotation here was set/enabled correctly.  Device still won't rotate.     Any help appreciated so that I don't have to send the laptop back for a re-repair.

hi, sorry to be bringer of bad news, but in my case (motherboard replaced, sent back to me with no rotation)) i sent the laptop back for re-repair and even tho support told me they dont do replacements, i got a call from HP telling me they need to replace my laptop, they were unable to fix the rotation issue. i hope they dont put you through as much as i had to go through,

1. Go to control panel

2. Go to Display

3.Go to Adjust Resolution

4. Be sure "Allow the screen to auto-rotate" is CHECKED.

You're welcome.

I'll try to help: did it work before and only after a software change did it stop working? If so fear not it's just a configuration issue.

If you had no recollection of it working before it probably is HW Issue. Easiest way to check is to go to device manager and check if HID sensor is present, or something along the linevitable (should be under sensor subfolder). Mine was totally absent this. I tried to manually install but it showed "could not start" error. If it is present, check that your sensor services are started and running. Do a control alt Del and go to services, enable all sensor services (mmine would disable after a while).

To summarise:
1. If it was working before it's just a SW thing. Update your windows os, use hp Assistant, manually iinstall Intel auto rotate drivers.
2. Hack registry to force auto rotation tick box to show and also set it to on (value is 1). The d word value is something like AutoRotationDisplay pls Bing or Google
3. If no sensors are registered via services menu then it's a HW issue. You may download 3rd party sensor app to double check

Anyway mine had faulty Webcam, then was replaced only for the motherboard to go dead. It was replaced again only for the sensors to disappear. So it went to the service center 3x. Good thing the staff at hp service center were all accommodating!

MikeRaphone,

If you had read this thread through, you probably would have noticed that we all had tried that and it didn't work.

And, all of our computers were also plugged in, turned on, and fully charged.  Amazing.

I had to send mine back out.  They sent it back a couple of weeks ago and now it works fine.   The work was described as "Updated Firmware".  When I asked what 'firmware' was, they said it is "the software that runs the hardware".

On a different but possibly similar note, I got my daughter the same laptop for Christmas (but in a sleek black with copper trim).  She said that compared to hers, my fan runs extremely loud.  Not sure if related....
