It sounds like a bug in the driver. At least I hope, because this means it could be fixed rather quickly. Hopefully it is not hardware related, as this is a new wireless chip from my understanding, I would hope something like this would have been noticed in initial test devices before public sale!

All my issues are solved by using an external wifi adapter via an OTG cable... the wifi drops are gone. It also solved my bluetooh sound stuttering issues.
Seems like there are some serious driver issues that need to be fixed (I'm on the Stream 8, but the hardware is the same).

I've figured out how to stabilize the onboard wifi, but at the expense of being able to use Bluetooth. If you go into the Advanced tab of the Adapter configuration and change the "WiFi Configure" setting from "Performace" to "WiFi" the connectivity issues clear up but the Bluetooth seems to stop working.
Would be good if they would fix these drivers.

Folks,
I purchased an HP Stream 8 from Microsoft earlier in the week. The wifi on the tablet is terrible! Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I've re-installed the latest drive a couple times, no noticeable difference. I really like this tablet, but if it's not going to be reliable I'm probably going to send it back.

Well if it makes anyone feel better, I found out that the latest dell venue pro 8, uses the same wifi chipset and has similar issues... Yah that didn't make me feel any better either. Same boat, tried every setting, some stuff works for a while and then the problem just pops back up. Tried changing that setting from "performance" to "WiFi" worked for a while, then bleh. Tried setting it to use 20mhz only, that worked for a few days then bleh.

That's good in that it means it wasn't HP wiring something up incorrectly (we assumed that, but you never know). That means its either the chip or the driver. I'm still hoping for the driver which should be a nice patch here in a month. Otherwise we are in trouble.
Edit: The venue pro 8 has a "fix" for the wifi dropping. They say its static on some system associated with charging. Dell has told people to unplug the charger and deep cycle the power (on thiers its by holding the button for like 2 minutes). A few posts have said this fixed the problem temporarily, but they have to do it every once in a while. Can't play with my stream (its wrapped under the tree for the wife) so someone else will have to see if this is a thing.
