Its always a "windows issue".

However hardware deveopers are trusted to have focused their dilagence to provide a turn key reliable experiance. To be certain that "said hardware" is compatable with and tested with "said windows".

Furthermore to be proactive with solutions when an "open box" experiance is affected by this "setting"...

Im a developer, still had to do undisired research just in order to use the hardware in question.

Imagine for those that are not as tech savy....

How long did you have to poke around to figure it out? Point and case.. Is that what you paid for? When you purchased where you taking this into account?

Use it for a couple hours new out of the box and your imediately fixing things,,,,

Im good now.. Post above works, thus proving a few things between hardware and software.

HP should pay the one who fixed it since they couldnt... 😉

HP issue.... cant tell my grandma to buy this one right?.....

All,

I had the same problem with the x360 - got mine certified refurbished.  Same symptoms as those posting here - one area of the touchscreen (bottom left) would go crazy with phantom touches, making the laptop unuseable.

I believe I may have fixed this problem by installing the touchscreen controller firmware update.  This update is found on the HP support website, but is NOT found when scanning for drivers using the hp support tool.

Go to Software and Drivers, expand the "firmware" tab, and then select the appropriate firmware update.  Looks like the update was posted in November, so it's not a new file, but may not have been applied at the factory or if it was refurbished, may not have been applied during the refurbishing process (I noticed that very few updates had been installed).  Or, perhaps it was applied, but got corrupted somehow.

I installed it and I used my X360 quite a bit this weekend and - knock on wood - it seems to have fixed the problem.   Granted, I'm not ready to call it fixed yet until I use it a bit more.

good find. i just updated so we'll see if it really is a fix. by the way, did you also disable "fast start up" and also switch from sleep to hibernate? [those were the other suggestions on this board.]

i'll report back after some time and share if this touchscreen update worked for me or not.

I've disabled fast startup and the problem hasn't come up since. It's been a week now.

This seems to have done the trick.

Wish HP had posted this in the HP Support Assistant!

how do you know so quickly? i will need to run my unit for at least a few days to know with some confidence the issue has been resolved.

HP Recommended

Yes, I had already disabled fast boot and it did not fix my problem.  I never re-enabled it, so I guess I did both.

Following all of the suggestions above, including turning off fast restart, rebooting, and installing the new touchscreen drivers (sp78424), I have not had any ghost touch issues in over a week!

The other thing that I have noticed is that forcing Windows into tablet mode also works, since I mostly use the Spectre in tent mode.

I will post, again, only if the problem returns.

Hasta la vista, baby!
