What is the purpose of widgets? Is it possible to delete them (or disable them like the apps) so that they do not show up on my HP 7" Slate tablet? (I am not talking about widgets on my home screen or ones I downloaded, but the ones that come loaded under the widgets tab when you hit the "all apps" button.)

I don't know that you can either delete or mask them. Maybe there's an app...

Widgets are small bits of possibly useful info which are intended to sit on your home screen, and provide a quick glance into the app. they come in different sizes so you can use the one you like best, if u want. If you don't want, just tap & hold it, and drag it to the to of the screen to the Remove X mark.
You can also go into the Play Store settings to disable downloading Widgets.

Thanks for the link. I will try its instructions to see if it works on my tablet (sorry, I realilzed afterward that I forgot to indicate which device I had: a HP 7" Slate). Does this new information change the approach?
