X4500 Wireless Mouse
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought an x4500 mouse back in Spetember which seemed to be working fie until recently when it started to jumpo about a bit on screen. I chacked the batteries and they where fine. I then noticed that the laser sensor light on the underside wasn't working so I took it back to the shop and changed it. The new one seems to have the same problem - the laser sensor light doesn't come on and the mouse doesn't seem very accurate.

Should the Laser sensor light be on (on all my other mice they are inc HP ones) and if so it looks like I bought another faulty mouse?

@GazzaMataz To confirm, have you replaced the batteries as that seems to have helped many users in resolving such issues (in case you were using the old batteries in the new mouse as well), that said, you need to have the mouse on a flat opaque surface, preferably a mouse pad for it to work properly, if you've already got that and yet it isn't working, try the below steps:

Fix 1:

Remove the USB receiver and wireless mouse battery for 5 seconds.

After 5 seconds now reattach USB receiver and mouse battery and turn on your wireless mouse.

Fix 2:

1. Go to "RUN" (Win Logo + R) and type “devmgmt.msc” to open device manager.

2. Now find Mice and other pointing devices and find your wireless mouse.

3. Now right click on your wireless mouse and click Scan for hardware changes.

Hi Riddle

I have new batteries in the new HP x4500 Wireless Mouse. I have been using it and the more I seem to use it the better it gets - although the accuracy still seems to be a tiny bit off. I have tried both of the fixes that you suggested which seem to make no difference…

I am still mystified since the laser light still doesn't seem to come on. It flashed when I first bought the mouse and removed the battery slip thing but has never returned. Should the laser light be on when I am using the mouse like all my other mice?

@GazzaMataz If it's working fine (except for the accuracy) and the issue is with the light, I must let you know that there are two types of laser/optical mouse and one of the two does not have the light, it works without the light and your mouse could be one of those, as otherwise, it wouldn't move without the light.

Also, for the accuracy I suggest tuning the below settings:

Step 1
Go the Control Panel, select Hardware and Sound, and then Devices and Printers

Step 2
Choose your mouse from the menu of devices.

Step 3
Click the Pointer Options tab in the Mouse Properties window.

Step 4
Uncheck the box next to Enhance pointer precision.

Step 5
Click Apply, then OK. You're done!

Recap
With pointer precision disabled, mouse acceleration will be less of a problem, as your mouse movements will follow your hand movements more exactly.

Keep us posted. Although, I hope that answers your query,

Hi Riddle

Well the mouse seems to be working fine without the ligh underneath working now and I didn't have to turn on the accuracy that you suggested so everthing seems fine…

So I think that this is case closed - for the moment 🙂

@GazzaMataz I suggest you continue using the mouse for a while, restart the computer a few times and also check the device with an alternate computer, just keep the mouse under observations for a few days and let us know if it's permanently fixed, we'd like to be sure it's working fine before the case is closed. 😉

That said, I'm glad it's working fine and I hope you have a good day ahead!
