This is my second Envy X2 detachable. The last one was upgraded to Windows Pro and after an update from Windowt was unusable. It would boot very slowly to the Hello screen, not recognize me and after I entered my password the screen was black and the start menu would not open. I tried ctrl-alt-del to bring up the task manager and there were no applications running. I was able to get to the Control Panel to uninstall some of the updates but it didn't help. There were no programs associated with any programs. I wwould like to use 10 pro but is there a way to avoid turning the machine into a paperweight?

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂
I see that your experiencing issue with windows 10 pro upgrade,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
- Have you purchased windows 10 pro operating system? Is it licenced version?
- Have you updated the system software and drivers using windows update?
NOTE: HP does not recommend upgrading or downgrading hardware parts or software that is bundled with the product as It may affect the manufacturer's warranty and performance, however, you could change the configuration at your own discretion.
Meanwhile, I would suggest you to install HP Support Assistant from here and try to update the drivers
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
