My Tungsten E2 will not and has not sync to my computer since March. I want to save the info on my Tungsten E2 to my computer. I tried to copy everything to a sd card, but it keeps asking in what format. How can I copy everything on my Tungsten E2 to my computer for future use. The Tungsten has all my contacts, etc. and I am afraid if I can't get it copied, I may loose all info someday.
I did purchase a Palm T/X, but I can't even copy the stuff from my Tungsten to that now, since the T/X will not come on at all.

The only way to copy "everything" to a SD card is to use a backup utility. There is an excellent free backup utility called NVBackup which will backup the entire contents of your handheld onto a SD card...applications, databases, preferences, everything. It has settings to let you automatically run a backup at any time of the day, such as 3:00 am when you are asleep. You can also set it to only retain a certain number of "cycles", so that the automatic backups do not quickly fill up your SD card. I have mine set to 3.
With NVBackup, I have really little need to Hotsync either my TX or Centro to my desktop very often these days, since I rarely use the desktop components of any of my applications.

Bluegrass,
It would seem the most recent version of NVBackup can be found here -
http://mytreo.net/downloads/nv-backup,1090.html
Download the .prc file to your computer. Then, with a SD card in your E2 (the program can share space on a card, it need not be just for backups), use Quick Install (or right click > Save to Palm Powered Device, depending on your computer's OS) and HotSync to copy it over.
This should install the program in your E2 and on your card.
Its noted in an earlier post what the program will do (and the above-mentioned link covers some of it too) and the settings can be found by tapping the NVBackup > Options > Preferences.
Once set and allowed to run for the first time (I have a Master Save - the original, plus it cycles thru 2 daily Saves) you'll have a backup of E2 and the program itself on the card should you need to restore your device.
Dead simple and very worthwhile - especially for free!

March rings a bell, did you apply all the Daylight Savings Updates?
What OS on your computer and which version of Palm Desktop are you using?
What error message are you getting when attempting to sync?
Are you the only user of this computer? If no, never ever use switch user, always log on and log off.

I appreciate all of your help. However, since I am not computer savvy, I am completely lost on this. My Tungsten has not and will not HotSync at all with my computer. I went to the website and it seemed that I downloaded the .prc file to my computer, but after that step I am lost. How do I get that from
my computer to my Tungsten. I put the SD card from my Tungsten into my computer, but was not able to figure out how to download that
.prc file to the SD card. I am assuming that I should download that .prc file to the SD card from my computer, then put the SD card into my Tungsten
and ????
Thank you so much for your help and patience.

Thanks for your reply. My OS on my computer is Windows XP and the version of the Palm Desktop is the one that came with my Tungsten E2.
When I first bought the Palm T/X, I had a computer guy come and try to convert my info from the Tungsten E2 to the new Palm T/X. He was not
able to get the Tungsten E2 to HotSync either. He was not real familiar with the Palms and he could not figure out what the problem was.
I can't remember the exact error message, but it seemed that the computer was not acknowledging the Tungsten or the HoySync. I even went out and bought a new Palm cradle to see if maybe my original cable was bad. But it would not work with the cradle either.
I would go out and buy a new Tungsten E2, but my problem is still, how do I move all of my information from the origianl Tungsten E to a new one.
I really need to somehow, get all of my information from my Tungsten E saved onto my computer, so that I will not take a chance of losing the informtion.
I really love the Tungsten and want to continue using it, it's just that I know it will die one day.
I would appreciate any help.
Thank you,

Using your SD card reader on your computer, copy the nvbackup.prc file to this folder on the card:
/palm/launcher
You will need to know where on your desktop the downloaded file is located. Using Windows Explorer, you should be able to find it if you don't know where it is...you can also use the Search function from the toolbar of the Windows Explorer screen. Then when you locate the file, simply "drag & drop" that file into the /palm/launcher folder on the card.
Then, when you put the card back into your E2, enter the Menu (tap the clock in the top left corner) and select Copy. You will copy the NVBackup application "from" the card, and "to" the device.

It seems to have worked. There are a couple of items that I could not copy, because it said they were locked. How do I unlock these. The other thing that I noticed, was that there were somethings that were not copied to my computer such as some of the stuff in my calendar and a few contacts. Any advice on how to get those.
Now as I add new stuff to my Tungsten, would I just copy it to the card again and then from card to computer to keep it updated?
Or would you recommend not adding anything to my Tungsten and/or not using it at all?
Thank you so much!

I'm not following you.
Using NVBackup on the Palm, you only need to run it to backup the entire contents of your Palm onto the Card. I thought that is what you wanted to do. That process will backup everything. No need to use the Copy function on the Palm.
