Set laptop to automatically install all Windows 10 updates, since we had found most are for the good of operating efficiently.  Latest update now has made all text, icons, windows, everything display much bigger.  It's hard on the eyes, can't sit far enough away and still reach keyboard to be comfortable.  I have tried everything I could find online to resolve this BIG issue, but nothing works.  It only happened after the update.  Please help!  Can I uninstall that update somehow?  How do I report this so it can be fixed?    I don't know what to do now.  thanks!!!

Hello @brigsby

It helps to tell us what PC you have so we know what we're working with.

What is the full model or product number? (its located in the HP Support Assistant)

Im not sure if a video driver was updated or uninstalled.

Lets try this first...

Did you right click on the desktop and select Display Settings, then make sure the resolution was set to the recommended level? A higher number makes the icons/text smaller.

Also in the same window, you can change the Scale and Layout.

What are the results?

Computer is hp pavilion dv7-3057 64-bit.
Just installed latest windows 10 update.... system says version 10.0.15063 build 15063.... if that means anything.
Yes, i have tried the display settings (all are on rcommended settings, even tried sharpening pixels) but there is no change no matter what i do. Have tried all the "easy" fixes, and got nothing.

Someone had told me maybe my graphics adaptor driver is out of date, and maybe not even updated anymore. I don't know the fix for that.

Hope this helps, so you can help me more too! Thanks! Barb

That sort of explains some of the problem. Your old systems graphics card won’t have a driver that you can directly download. You can only get the driver updated via Windows updates.

The Windows version 10.0.15063 is missing 3 numbers on the end.

The very latest is 10.0.15063.729

Go to the Search bar (Cortana) and type winver and hit the Enter key to see what the full number is.

<Edit> That is for the Creators Update 1703, not to be confused with the newer Fall Creators Update 1709.

Most likely there are still some updates needed.

If you go to All Settings and click on Update and Security, you can manually start a search for updates. See if it will find a Feature Update to version 1703 and let it do its thing.

If that does not work, we’ll try something else.

I’ll wait to hear back from you first.

I will go ahead and add that if updating Windows further does not help, there are two other things you could try.

A. Revert the system back via a Windows Restore Point prior to the update that caused the issue.

It will update again after the restore point, but usually the issues caused wont occur again.

  1. Select the Start  button, type control panel and then choose it from the list of results.
  2. Search Control Panel for Recovery.
  3. Select Recovery > Open System Restore > Next.
  4. Choose the restore point related to the problematic app, driver, or update, and then select Next > Finish.

or

B. Reinstall Windows via the Microsoft Media Creation Tool. This will wipe the drive and reinstall Windows clean.

You would want to back up any important data if you have not done so already.

The last 3 numbers are 726. So from what your saying, that's not the latest. I continued with your instruction to find other updates. First, it said i had the latest update. Then when searching, it only came up with version 1709. Dio i do that?

1709 is the Fall Creators update and yes it is newer..

After thinking about this further, I would see if you can do a restore point first. If a restore point does not work, then we need to do something else.

If Restore Points are enabled, you can roll the system back to a point prior to the last update that biffed the resolution.

I gave the instructions above. Give this a try first and see if it corrects itself.

If it corrects itesef, then I would go ahead and upgrade to 1709.

Sorry for my very late response/update.... holidays and family issues delayed further action.
While i was looking into how to easily back up my data (haven't done it in long time....not wise, i know), my computer uodated itself ti version 1709, after i searched for updates. Don't think i told it to, but it did. Problem still existed. Then after another automatic update recently, everything went back to normal. Geez....
But i still haven't found easy way to backup data, which i want to do as soon as i can. Just need a way that's so I'll do it regularly. I only have some thumb drives, and the hard drive from my old towrr computer (which someone did i could use for backup, but never told me how. Any suggestions on how, or easy ways, id's greatly appreciated! Meanwhile, i am keeping all your info and instructions should my initial problem occur again.
Thanks so much!!
