hp notebook 15 ay-039wm
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

did a factory restore on windows. now windows is asking for the product key. I can not find the key on the box or the back of he notebook. is there aa way to get the key if so help. windows reverted back to 8.1. did not get a dvd for this product in the factory box.

Hi:

 

I have zipped up and attached this free utility which should provide the product key in your notebook's BIOS.

 

Not sure why Windows is asking for a product key though.

 

Also the product specs page for that model indicates that it came with W10 Home, not W8.1, which is probably why W8.1 is asking for a product key.

If the keyfinder program I attached confirms that there is a W10 Home product key in the BIOS, you can clean install W10 as follows...

 

You can make your own plain W10 installation media by using the Media creation tool at the link below.

 

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

 

The software will automatically work with the product key in your notebook's BIOS.

 

You don't need to know what the product key is.

 

Then go to your notebook's support page to install the drivers and available software you need.
