HP Chromebook X2 11
Chrome OS

Yesterday my HP Chromebook X2 11 arrived (8GB Ram edition 600€). I'am very disappointed... The whole device has poor system performance and videos stuttering on resolution up to 1080p. 60fps videos are not possible and stuttering too.

Only H264-1080p24fps works well on a 1440p Device...

VP9 (GOOGLE Youtube Codec standard) does not work on a Chromebook with Google Chrome OS release 2021???

This cant be a normal behavior? If this is hardware-related this device is not usable as a tablet. The main usecase of a tablet is watching videos.

Official the Snapdragon 7c Supports 4k Videos, but in combination with Chrome OS currently it does not. I found a lot of posts addressing the same problem/behavoir on other devices with Snapdragon 7c. Also from HP.

Will this be patched soon? If not the i have to return the device because it completely does not meet the usecase.

Today Update to Chrome OS 96 arrived and all issues regarding the video decode with VP9 seems to be fixed. Also 4k60fps works!

Nice Work keep it on

OK, after further testing i have to be fair.

The problems only occurs with 60fps+ videos. But using VP9 (YouTube) there is still stuttering with 1440p/2140p on 24/30fps. At least 4k with 24fps should run stable but it does not. 😕

Is this behavior a known issue?

Thanks for any information and feedback.

I know you may not have seen any replies, but for every non-reply  (lol) there are a ton of people like me curious about the same issue. Thanks for posting what you did!
