HP Slate 21 All In One
Android 8.0 Oreo and older

***Need Help accessing and performing a factory reset***

Background:

I recently purchased 3 HP Slate 21 All In One devices from a local state organization. After taking possession of the devices, I found that although the devices had their data removed, they did not remove the user lockscreen/password. I was able to log onto each device and find the Google email for the main account. I sent an email asking for password help, but have not got a response.

Actions:

After reading a number of support documents, I tried the following:

Attempt #1 Turning on the device, entering the guest account, went to apps, then settings. However I assume that since it is the guest account, the option for a factory reset is unavailable.

Attempt #2 With the device off, I held the power button and down volume button simultaneously.....(however nothing happened (no matter how long the buttons were held)

Attempt #3 With the device off, I held the power button until the HP logo appeared, I then pressed the Down Volume and held it for a few seconds hoping it would put me into safe mode. (unsuccessful - the device simply booted to the lock screen as it normally would when powered on)

What other options do I have to reset these devices to factory?

Is there a method of booting from a SD card or USB device?

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide - Joel

I would suggest you try to return the devices for a refund...

The Slate 21 was abandoned by HP quite a while ago, with little in the way of support left.   😞
